Rhinoceros unicornis

This gorgeous beast was made by Alfred Jacquemart in 1878. I don't know if I would be game to sit under that fierce head, but that's just me. You can visit him where he guards the entrance of the Musee D'Orsay.

If you really like rhinoceroses, there's a treat for you inside the gallery. There you will find two more.

Beautiful! I like the two tourists underneath it- one can see them as either just as contemplative as a rhino is in the wild, or as grandly oblivious to the danger over their heads.

I have to go do some Googling- Alfred Jacquemart must be the brother of Albert Jacquemart, a noted author of books on porcelain and faience during the same time period. Not that anyone but me remembers Albert these days...

I see them as grandly oblivious (nicely put, Colonel.)

Let us know about Albert & his Porcelain Adventures. I couldn't get Alfred on Wiki to link to, and the Musee D'Orsay site has his bio in French, and I thought would be un peu pretensieuse of me to link to that.

You just know I'd have my photo taken on the other end of this beautiful beast!

Do people rub his penis?

(Just asking 'cause whenever I see these big animals sculpted anywhere across the world, their penises are all shiny and polished...)

sarah sue: A close-up of your *ahem* region of interest.

anaglyph: See above. I know the phenomenon of which you speak. I'll go to MacQuarie Street tomorrow & snap the Boar outside the Parliament & post him. (Better than the bores inside.)

joey: At night, he wanders the boulevards.
