I always use SPF one million.
I reckon the reason that there's so many pools is that when those poor bastards were being force marched along the Kokoda the only thing that kept them going was the thought of a really nice swim...

I think a swimming pool is a great memorial. Beats the hell out of a lot of stuffier, unfun options.

I love the idea of a pool for a memorial too! There's nothing more relaxing than a few laps ... and yes I mean that in every way imaginable.

God that looks nice. Normally I hate going to pools because there are 10 million kids peeing in them, but the idea of having one that big that you could have all to yourself sounds very inviting.

mike: In tropical Far North Queensland, where Townsville is, they put on woollies when the temperature dips below 30C (about 86F in your money). I was there in late winter & it was 26 degrees - perfect for me - and every one of those pools was empty because it was "too cold" to swim.
Most Australian pools have the lane pools of 25 or 50 metres, and a kiddie pool or two as well. So grown-ups can crawl up & down without pesky ankle biters getting in the way. Or depositing their pee.
