I had read the text of that speech somewhere else but hearing it is so much better. Great speech and a wonderful thing to do. Now if we could just get the British and American governments to offer apologies to the Native American population here in the US, we could take another step to making this a better world to live in.
Excellent! When I saw the hubbub yesterday about Prince Andrew saying the US should get pointers from the UK on dealing with colonial problems (in his case meaning our probs with Iraq and Afghanistan) I thought I was going to blow a gasket because I remember just how lovely they were to native peoples everywhere.
At least your guy is making a step in the right direction. Good for him.
I saw a flurry of my Australian colleagues on facebook saying, "I'm sorry." It was quite moving. This is the right thing to do; like mike says, it's way overdue here in the US (probably due to fear of lawsuits...)
I took these photos with my Lumix camera. It has a Leica lens. Laika was the first dog in space. Dogs In Space is an Australian film made in 1986. My friend Fiona played Barbara the Socialist. Now my friend Miss Simons lives two doors from the house where Dogs In Space was shot in Melbourne. I just sold the Dogs In Space R-rated soundtrack LP on eBay for $26.

Yes mike it was an amazing day.
He said he was going to do it as the first order of business, and he did it.

malach: why am I not surprised?
BuzzBi: A step in the right direction indeed. Now comes the practical matters, the actions that will speak.
